Press release from Grassroots Conservatives
Bank Holiday Monday August 26 2019 - the unrequired fifth day of the test match
As the country rejoices in England’s unexpected victory at Headingly and calls for Sir Ben Stokes to be knighted on the hallowed turf itself, has anyone else thought that this is a prophetic metaphor for pulling off a successful Brexit on October 31?
Ben Stokes and Boris Johnson might not have a lot in common, but both have displayed an audacious and optimistic outlook which defies all the ‘wisest’ heads, who say that what they envisage cannot be done - in the Headingly case Mister Shane Warne who checked out of his hotel early.
The old song is brought to mind:
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin
Just take off your coat and go to it.
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it.
Or Hudson Taylor’s words:
I have found that there are three stages in every great work of God: first, it is impossible, then it is difficult, then it is done.
